The Project
This state-of-the-art life sciences facility is based in the heart of Nottingham’s creative quarter. It has been developed as a mixed-use science and business innovation hub. Nottingham has always had a close affiliation with science and development (particularly with pharmaceuticals) and the BioCity Discovery building represents the city’s continued growth and support within the science community.
The main contractor for the construction of the five-storey building was Willmott Dixon and Sage were responsible for the roofing and cladding elements of the build. To the roof, we installed an inverted IKO PermaTec Hot melt roofing system topped with paving slabs.
To the walls we installed a Dekton ceramic cladding system fixed by helping hand brackets, Kinspan composite cladding to inside parapet walls, a Vantage SF Anodised interlocking rainscreen system with a support grid which was also designed and installed by Sage; and the VM Zinc Rainscreen system.

Sage BEC takes responsibility for the greenhouse gases we cannot avoid emitting by using the Climatecare offset calculator to determine how many tonnes of CO2 we produce in our trading year. To achieve Carbon Neutral status we pay Climatecare to reduce the equivalent amount of CO2 in another part of the world by investing that money into emission reduction projects replacing fuel hungry inefficient technologies with efficient low-carbon technologies in developing countries. ISO 14001 is focussed around the environmental aspects of the organisation, with the core principle of continual improvement being the driving force behind environmental development. Through achieving certification of this standard; Sage BEC has illustrated a comprehensive environmental plan which is integrated into our principles as a company, and will continue to feature heavily in our progressive growth within the Roofing & Cladding Industry.
